كتاب "المجتمع" للأستاذ "محمد عبد الجبار" هو محاولة جادة لتأطير مذهب جديد في الإجتماع، ذلك هو "المذهب القرآني" الذي يعتبر بديلاً عن المذاهب الوضعية في هذا المجال، مثل المذهب الإجتماعي الماركسي أو المذهب الإجتماعي الرأسمالي وغيرهما من المدارس والمذاهب الإجتماعية.
ولا تنطلق هذه المدرسة من فراغ... وإنما تتخذ الآيات القرآنية الكريمة أساساً في بلورة الفكرة أو النظرية... مع الإستفادة الكاملة من الدراسات الإسلامية الرائدة في هذا المجال.
وتجسد هذه المحاولة قناعة تقول أن الحاجة إلى المذهب الإجتماعي القرآني ليست حاجة أكاديمية بقدر ما هي حاجة عملية، فالأمة الإسلامية تمر بمرحلة نهوض وإنبعاث جديدين، ويحتاج الرواد إلى فهم الملابسات الإجتماعية التي تكتنف هذه المرحلة، وحتى يكون الفهم صحيحاً ومفيداً ينبغي أن ينبثق من هذا المذهب لإعتبارين هما: أولاً: لأن أسس المذهب الإجتماعي القرآني مقررة في القرآن وهذا لا يقبل الخطأ، ثانياً: لأن المذهب الإجتماعي القرآني هو المركب الحضاري الوحيد القادر على إستيعاب الأمة.
