إذا كانت ترجمة الشعر خيانة للنص الأصلي.. لا بد منها على قولة الفرنسيين؛ فإن د. نذير العظمة في كتابه "الماسة وازميل الترجمة" يبدأ بعدة تساؤلات: هل الإبداع مشروع في الترجمة أم أن الأمانة هي المطلوبة، وهل الأمانة ممكنة في الترجمة... واين؟!
وفي الكتاب اعتبر الدكتور العظمة بأن أغلب المبدعين من الشعراء الذين ترجموا لغيرهم من الشعراء، لم يمارسوا فضيلة الأمانة، ولو مارسوها لما حققوا هذا التاثير من خلال إبداعاتهم في الترجمة، فإذا كانت الترجمة جسراً للتواصل بين الشعوب والثقافات؛ فإن الترجمة الأكثر إثارة للجدل هي: الترجمة الشعرية...
في هذا السياق يفرد المؤلف ترجمة شعرية عربية كاملة لأغاني البراءة والتجربة لوليم بليك؛ إضافة إلى ترجمات من اللغة العربية إلى الإنجليزية لقصائد من كتاب الزهرة لأبي داوود الأصفهاني البين في الغزل... وقصائد أخرى لخمسة عشر نموذجاً لشعراء عرب وأجانب تؤكد في مجملها أن لكل جيلاً أسلوبه في الترجمة وذائقته وبهذا تكون الترجمة مرآة تعكس قدرات المترجم ومهاراته لا في التحويل فحسب وإنما في استكناه النص المترجم والقبض على جوهرة.
تؤدي الترجمة دوراً مهماً في حياة الشعوب وتاريخ الحضارة ونمو الآداب وتطورها, ولعلها كانت من الأسباب التي مهدت لنشوء الأدب المقارن. فالاختصاصيون في هذا العالم يعدون ترجمة الروائع العالمية بمثابة العتبة التي قادت الى نشوئه, كما يعد مؤرخو الأدب الإنكليزي أن بداية آدابهم كانت في ترجمة التوراة أي العهدين القديم والجديد الى لغتهم. كما أن ترجمة القرآن الكريم الى اللغات الأوربية أدى الى مؤثرات بارزة في شعراء هذه اللغات وآدابها في بعض قصائدهم وأعمالهم. ونجد أن روائع الآداب الكبرى والثقافات والأديان لم تعم الحضارة العالمية إلا عن طريق الترجمة, لكن الترجمة لا يمكن أن تصبح بديلاً عن الأصل المترجم وأن تحتل مكانته, سيما إذا كان الأمر يتعلق بوثيقة علمية أو قانونية أو فقهية, أو دينية عندئذ لابد من الرجوع الى الأصل.
