يحاول الكاتب عمر عبيد حسن في كتابه هذا أن يؤكد على حقيقة واحدة جاءت بها الأديان السماوية في قول الله تعالى "يا أيها الناس إتقوا ربكم الذي خلقكم من نفس واحدة"، فكانت وحدة الأصل البشري التي تعني المساواة في أصل الخلق، أي لا مجال للتمايز والعنصرية والتعالي، والإنسان أخو الإنسان، والتنوع والإختلاف جعله الله سبيلاً للتعاون والتكامل بين البشر فقال تعالى: "وجعلناكم شعوباً وقبائل لتعارفوا". لأجل ذلك، جاء هذا الكتاب ليوضح أن التكامل والتعارف والتثاقف والتلاقح والتعايش والتفاهم، لابد أن ينتج النمو والإرتقاء، وبناء المشترك الإنساني، وأن لا يقرأ القرآن بأبجدية خاطئة فيتحول إلى نقمة ويشكل بؤرة للصراع والمواجهة والهيمنة وإلغاء الآخر. وإنما يجب أن ننطلق من الإيمان بالله الواحد الذي يتساوى أمامه الخلق جميعاً. وهنا يطرح السؤال لماذا ظهر العنف وما هي أسبابه إذا؟ ظاهرة العنف والتطرف هي غلبة نوازع الشر على دوافع الخير، على مستوى الأفراد والأمم والحضارات، عند بعض المنعطفات الحادة للمسيرة البشرية، وهي ظاهرة مركبة مكونة من عدة أسباب سياسية وإجتماعية وإقتصادية، وشرعية تتضافر وتتلاقى وتتماهى لتشكل الظاهرة. ويأتي على رأسها إحتكار السلطة، والإستبداد السياسي، الذي يتمثل بالقمع وإستلاب الحريات والكرامات والآراء الحرة، ثم الإستئثار بالثروة، الذي يخلف وراءه الظلم الإجتماعي والبؤس الإقتصادي، لأن الإستئثار بالثروة قرين الإسئثار بالسلطة، إن لم يكن من لوازمه، إضافة إلى التفسير الخاطئ والتحريف لكلام الله وإقامة الوسائط بين الله وخلقه، وإبتزاز الناس بالتسلط على دينهم ودنياهم. تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب كونه يسلط الأضواء على جميع هذه الدوافع السلبية للسيطرة، وأسبابها، ونقدها بموضوعية وتصحيحها من خلال الشريعة الإسلامية وما جاء به سيدنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم من تعاليم ومفاهيم إسلامية أحدثت إنقلاباً جذرياً في واقع المجتمعات، وأعطت للإنسان منزلة أرفع وأسمى من جميع النظريات الحديثة التي جعلته عبداً للمادة والشهوات.
