يعرض هذا الكتاب واقع المرأة في المجتمعات العربية، في مختلف المجالات، الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والثقافية والسياسية، ويشير إلى الظلم الواقع عليها، وإمعان المجتمع الذكوري في إستمرار عدم مساواتها بالرجل، وحرمان المجتمع من قدراتها وإمكانياتها وإبداعها ومساهماتها في تطويره، ويلامس جوانب هذا الحيف في قوانين الأحوال الشخصية، وفي المشاركة السياسية والتعليم والعمل وممارسة العنف وغيرها، وقبل ذلك إستمرار نظرة المجتمع الدونية إلى المرأة، وعدم تمكينها من أداء دورها الخلاّق في أسرتها ومجتمعها، وتطبيق فقه ديني عتيق متهالك مختلق غير إسلامي عليها، والإستخفاف بحقوقها ورفض إعطائها حقها، تحت زعم أن ذلك تنفيذٌ لتعليمات الدين الإسلامي، وبديهي أن علاقة للدين بمعظم ما تطبّقه المجتمعات العربية وما تتعامل به مع المرأة.
