اعتنى القرآن الكريم بتفصيل الحديث عن العقيدة الحقة التي دعا الناس إلى اعتناقها، وأفاض في الحديث عن أركانها.. من الإيمان بالله تعالى وصفاته، وبالأنبياء ومكانتهم ونعوتهم ومهامهم، وباليوم الآخر، وسائر الأمور الغيبية.
ومن العلماء الأفاضل الذين اعتنوا بالعقيدة، وفهموا الواجب المناط بعهدتهم في شرحها "ابن أبي زيد القيرواني" فعمد إلى بيانها للناس وتفسير، وذلك بتحويل آيات الكتاب الحكيم العقدية إلى قواعد ومقررات واستدلالات، على النحو الذي يبسطها لعامة المسلمين من المؤمنين.
وفي هذا الكتاب يكتب ابن أبي زيد القيرواني جملاً مختصرة من واجب أمور الديانة، مما تنطلق به الألسنة وتعتقده الأفئدة وتعمله الجوارح، وما يتصل بالواجب من ذلك من السنن من مؤكدها ونوافلها ورغائبها، وشيء من الآداب منها، وجمل من أصول الفقه وفنونه، على مذهب الإمام مالك وطريقته، مع ما سهَل سبيل ما أشكل من ذلك من تفسير الراسخين، وبيان المتفقهين... وقد عرفها ابن أبي زيد في أول "الرسالة" وهي مقدمة خصصها للحديث عن قضايا العقيدة التي يطلب من المسلم أن يعتقدها، وجعلها تحت عنوان: "باب ما تنطق به الألسنة وتعتقده الأفئدة من واجب أمور الديانة". وكذلك فعل في "كتاب الجامع" الذي جعل له مقدمة تناول فيها بعض القضايا العقدية، وعنونها بـ "باب ذكر السنن التي خلافها البدع، وذكر الإقتداء والإتباع وشيء من فضل الصحابة ومجانية أهل البدع".
