تتناول المؤلفة بالتأمل والتحليل، بالدرس والمقارنة، روايات غادة السمان الخمس حتى الآن، ابتداءً من "بيروت 75" وانتهاءً بـ"سهرة تنكرية للموتى"، مشددة على وجود مشروع روائي لدى السمان، تحاول العمل عليه والتفرغ له في جميع أعمالها الروائية، وساعية إلى تطوير هذا المشروع باستمرار وإغنائه شكلاً ومضموناً، يمكن إيجازه بأنه تصوير ومعايشة الإنسان العربي الذي قهرته الحروب وشوهته القيم الزائفة وهذه القمع، ومن ثم تجسيد خصوصية هذه المعاناة عبر بناء مبتكر.
كتاب عن روايات، أجل لكنه أيضاً عن كاتبة كرست حياتها وفنها لحرية أمتها، وأخلصت العطاء لفتها، ومنحت الإبداع الحق كل طاقاتها ومواهبها، فحققت تطوراً مرموقاً في جماليات رواياتها، ولم تعرف تجربتها الإبداعية التكرار.
