يعتبر الموت هو النهاية التي لا مفر منها والجميع يسير نحو هذه النهاية الحتمية، لكي تتحقق العدالة الإلهية العظيمة بالثواب للمحسنين والعقاب للعاصين والفرق بينهما كبير جداً، وخلال عبور الإنسان إلى الناحية الأخرى التي تكون هي المستقر الأخير فتكون إما جنة أو نار يمر بحالة عصبية جداً لا ينجو منها إلا المخفون ألا وهي حالة الاحتضار حين يبقى الإنسان في تلك الحالة رهين ما يراه أمامه من عالم جديد وقوانين لم يكن قد تعود عليها في حياته الأولى، وهنا ينتهز الشيطان هذه الفرصة فيحاول الاقتراب من الإنسان في محاولة أخيرة ولكنها صعبة وشديدة على الإنسان محاولاً أن يجعله من الذين يتركون عبادة الله والعياذ بالله والتسليم لطاعة الشيطان، وهنا يحاول الإنسان عدم الإنجرار وراء صوت الشيطان ووعوده ومزالقه الرهيبة ولكن كيف يتمكن من ذلك وكيف يستطيع السيطرة على نفسه وعلى دينه في تلك اللحظات الحرجة والدقيقة؟ وما على الإنسان أن يعمله قبل أن يصل إلى مرحلة الاحتضار من الأعمال التي تبعده عن الشيطان وإغوائه، وما هي الأحداث التي وقعت على بعض الذين سرد قصصهم التاريخ وهم في حالة الاحتضار؟ كل ذلك حاول هذا الكتاب نقله من خلال عرض لبعض المحطات المهمة لحالة الاحتضار وقام بإعطاء نماذج وشواهد كافية لما حصل من تلك الحالات.
