كمال عبد الرزاق في حبه للتراث ودرسه إياه وجوبه فيه، يقدم لنا اليوم جهده في صورة كتاب يتكلم فيه على شخصية تراثية معروفة مشتهرة بالرغم من قلته ما تختزنه كتب التراث عنها، وسبب هذه المعرفة والاشتهار هو أنها كانت بدعاً من النساء في عصرها لا لأنها مغنية وشاعرة أخت مغن وشاعر، فما كان ذلك بغريب، ولكن البدع هو أنها كانت إلى ذلك حفيدة خليفة وابنة خليفة وأخت خليفتين وعمة ثلاثة خلفاء، وكل كل من هؤلاء يسمى بابن عن رسول الله، وكان كل من هؤلاء ينادي بخليفة رسول الله وأمير المؤمنين، ولدت في عصر أعطى المرأة شيئاً من حقها في الحياة وكانت ثمرة من ثمار تلك النهضة التي توجتها الخيزران بتصورها للأمر والنهي والفصل، والوصل حتى زجرها ابنها الملقب بالهادي وأنذرها بالحساب والعقاب وألزمها كسر بيتها.
وجاءت "علية" امرأة تحمل معها لأهلها العجب والتساؤل: كيف أجازوا لها أن تفعل ذلك فتغني؟ بل قد مضى بعضهم إلى أبعد من هذا فكراً فقال إنها كانت تعاقر الخمرة، وقال آخرون أنها كانت تتعشق مملوكاً من مماليك القصر الخلافي يسمى طلا وأنها كانت تقول فيه الشعر تلميحاً وتصريحاً. وكانت إلى ذلك كله دوافة في خلق الزي الذي تراه ملائماً لها، فكان يتخذ ما تخلقه مثالاً يحتذى وقدوة بها يقتدى، عليه إذن ظاهرة بدع في العصر العباسي والقصر العباسي. وقد أورثت لذلك أهلها مغمزاً عليهم لأعدائهم حتى صاح أبو فراس الحمداني فيهم مقارناً بينهم وبين أبناء عمهم من الطالبين.
انطلاقاً من هنا كان لا بد إذن أن يدرس هذه الشخصية البدع فيجمع شتان ما قيل فيها وما نسج حولها وما روي لها ويضع ذلك جميعاً في موضع النقد والتمحيص والدرس ليصل فيه إلى كلمة فصل. ولقد تصدى الباحث لذلك كله متناولاً إياه بالدراسة والتمحيص، فناقش أولاً نسب عليه واختلاف الآراء في اسم أمها، من ثم بحث صلة علية بالعباسية وحقيقة وجود كل واحدة منهما من خلال استقراء منطقي لما يعرف بنكبة البرامكة، وخلال بحثه تعرض لمناقشة بعض الآراء الصادرة عن كبار الكتاب والمؤرخين في هذا الموضع, وبعد ذلك أثبت القصائد التي صدرت عن الشاعرة مرتباً مادتها ومنقحاً ما فيها، من ثم عرف بأوزانها وخرج أبياته.
