هذا كتاب وضعناه في ثلاثة أجزاء، وقد نحونا فيه طريقة الاستنباط التي هي أكثر طرق التعليم قرباً إلى عقول الأطفال، وأثبتها أثراً في نفوسهم، وأقربها إلى المنطق، لأنها خير دافع إلى التفكير والبحث، وتعرف وجوه المشابهة والمخالفة بين الأشباه والأضداد، فقد أكثرنا من الأمثلة التي تستنبط منها القواعد، على طراز حديث لم يسبق له مثال، فاخترناها سهلة مفهومة، مقصورة في الغالب الكثير على ما يرد منها. ضاربة في جهات شتى من نواحي الحياة الطفلية، مناسبة لبيئة النشء الصغار وغرائزهم شائقة جذابة لنفوسهم.
ثم بينا في بسط وأناة سبيل الاستنباط من الأمثلة، سالكين سنناً منطقياً جلي العبارة، خالياً من الاصطلاح العلمي، آخذاً بأيدي الأطفال من دراسة كل مثال إلى النتيجة الواضحة والقاعدة العامة.
وقد وضعنا القواعد والتعاريف المستنبطة في عبارة لا تمتنع عن الأفهام الصغيرة والعقول الناشئة.
أما التمرينات فقد بذلنا جهد الطاقة في أن تكون كثيرة الأنواع، سهلة المعانين مناسبة لمدارك الأطفال، دافعة لهم إلى تكوين وتأليف الجمل، مكونة للذوق العربي السليم، مربية لقوة الإنسان والتعبير الصحيح، هذا إلى أننا وضعنا بين هذه التمرينات تمرينات في الإنشاء، ترتبط بالقواعد التي ألمّ التلاميذ بها، حتى يظهر لهم ما لهذه الدراسة من الأثر البين في سداد القول وحسن البيان، فإننا نعتقد أن القواعد العربية يجب أن يمتزج تعليمها بتعليم الإنشاء، حتى تكون عملية واضحة الأثر.
