جاء هذا الكتاب في ثلاثة أجزاء، لكل منهج من مناهج السنة الثانية والثالثة والرابعة بالمدارس الإبتدائية جزء خاص به؛ فقد عمد المؤلف في هذا الكتاب طريقة الإستنباط التي هي أكثر طرق التعليم قرباً إلى عقول الأطفال، وأثبتها أثراً في نفوسهم، وأقربها إلى المنطق، لأنها خير دافع إلى التفكير والبحث، وتعرّف وجوه المشابهة والمخالفة بين الأشباه والأضداد، فقد أكثر من الأمثلة التي تُستنبط منها القواعد، على طراز حديث لم يسبق له مثال، فإختارها سهلة مفهومة، مقصورة في الغالب الكثير على ما يراد منها، ضاربة في جهات شتى من نواحي الحياة الطفلية، مناسبة لبيئة النشء الصغار وغرائزهم شائقة جذّابة لنفوسهم.
ثم بيّن في بَسْطٍ وأناة سبيل الإستنباط من الأمثلة، سالكاً سنناً منطقيّاً جليّ العبارة، خالياً من الإصطلاح العلمي، آخذاً بأيدي الأطفال من دراسة كل مثال إلى النتيجة الواضحة والقاعدة العامة؛ وقد وضع القواعد والتعارف المستنبَطة في عبارة لا تمتنع عن الأفهام الصغيرة والعقول الناشئة.
أما التمرينات فقد بذل جهد الطاقة في أن تكون كثيرة الأنواع، سهلة المعاني، مناسبة لمدارك الأطفال، دافعة لهم إلى تكوين وتأليف الجمل، مكوّنة للذوق العربي السليم، مربية لقوة الإنشاء والتعبير الصحيح؛ هذا وضع بين هذه التمرينات وتمرينات في الإنشاء، ترتبط بالقواعد التي ألمّ التلاميذ بها، حتى يظهر لهم ما لهذه الدراسة من الأثر البيِّن في سداد القول وحسن البيان.
ولذلك أن القواعد العربية يجب أن يمتزج تعليمها بتعليم الإنشاء، حتى تكون عملية واضحة الأثر...
