في النظام الإسلامي مسؤولية الإتفاق على المرأة تقع على الرجل، لأنها لم تكن تعمل حيث كان العمل شاقاً ويقوم به العبيد لا الرجال الأحرار، فكان من العدالة في ظل هذه الظروف أن يأخذ الرجل أكثر من المرأة في الميراث، لأنه سينفق منه على المرأة سواء كانت أماً أم أختاً أم زوجة أم غير ذلك، فإذا كان مُبرِر التفرقة هو الإنفاق والمرأة تعمل الآن، فلماذا لا نعيد النظر في أحكام الميراث ونُقِيم العدل فيها ونساوى بين المرأة والرجل في الميراث.
ولا شك أنَّ جمال البنا يسعى بتفسيره هذا إلى تعديل الآية الكريمة تعديلاً يتفق مع دعوى المساواة بين الرجل والمرأة، وهي دعوة خطيرة يراد من خلالها تقديم شريعة جديدة للأمة المسلمة تحت دعاوى عديدة منها: أن القيم القرآنية هي الحاكمة في فهم النص القرآني وإستنباط معانيه.
لذا، فإن هذا البحث في محاولته المتواضعة يسعى إلى الذب عن كتاب الله تعالى في مفاهيمه وقيمه المتصلة بقضية المرأة، ويحاول الرد على هذه المناهج الحداثية الغربية في تعاملها مع النص القرآني الكريم، وذلك من خلال تقديمه رؤية قرآنية متكاملة حول المرأة وقضاياها مقابلةً بالرؤية الحداثية لآيات المرأة، مع بيانه للكيفية التي تمَّ فيها توظيف آيات المرأة لصالح مفاهيم حداثية وقيم غريبة على الأمة المسلمة.
