تنبع ريادة هذا العمل من كونه منهلاً للمبادئ الأساسية للتصميم الداخلي التي لا غنى عنها لكل من يحب هذا الفن الرفيع ومن تمكن ناحيته، وغناه بالأمثلة العديدة والواضحة لكل حالة أو ناحية تعطيه صفة الكتاب الشمولي المختصر في هذا العلم بالذات. وتجزئة العمل إلى كتابين كان من أجل سهولة تناوله، فاحتوى الكتاب الأول على النواحي النظرية في المبادئ الأساسية للتصميم الداخلي، والمشاريع الألوان على حد سواء، مروراً بالنواحي العملية لاختيار السطوح والأرضيات والمفروشات، بعد أن تناول بالتفصيل الحياة اليومية بما فيها المعيشة والعائلة وغرفة المائدة ثم انتقل إلى غرفة الألعاب والرواقات والفناءات والأدراج ومدخل المنزل الرئيسي وأنواعه، ويتمم ذلك في مجال الخدمات التي يدخل المطبخ من متطلباتها الرئيسية، وما يحويه من خدمات ملحقة، مروراً بمرآب السيارة ومرافق التخزين وأخيراً ركن النوم والحياة الليليلة.
أما الجزء الثاني من الكتاب فيحتوي على عرض النواحي العملية والتطبيقية، وبشكل عام ينقسم هذا الجزء إلى قسمين يبحث الأول طرق معالجة السطوح بدءاً من تلمس الأنسجة فيها، وطرق صنعها، مروراً بالأرضيات والأسقف وطرق معالجة سطوحها، إلى الجدران التي كان لها نصيب كبير في الدراسة لاحتوائها على كمّ هائل من العناصر الواجب تفنيدها مثل أغطية الجدران وطلاءاتها وورق الجدران وصور المشاهد الطبيعية والأشكال الهندسية… وطبعاً الأبواب والنوافذ، وأخيراً الستائر بأشكالها العديدة والمتعددة.
أما القسم الثاني فاحتوى على الأدوات الداخلة في تركيبة المنزل كالموقد والبرادات والغسالات وأدوات تنقية المياه... ومن ثم الأثاث وطائفة ووظائفه وترتيبه وفقاً للطرز والحقب، ومن ثم انتقل إلى الأدوات المساعدة في عملية التزيين كالخزائن الجدارية والرفوف... أما الكتاب الثاني فاختص بالنواحي العملية والتطبيقية.
