ساحل بلاد الشام والصراعات الدولية هو المحور الذي تدور حوله الدراسة في هذا الكتاب والتي مثلت محاولة الباحث العودة إلى جذور الظواهر الجيوبوليتيكية للمنطقة المدروسة وهي ساحل بلاد الشام. وذلك بدافع قومي ووطني لتبين ما في كوامن لاوعي العربي السياسي والثقافي من تجارب ومكبوتات تتحكم من اللاوعي العربي الجماعي في التصرف في المجالات السياسية الوطنية والقومية بالإضافة إلى خصائص التشكيلات الاجتماعية، والجذور الثقافية كأمة وكمجموعات، وذلك بهدف بيان موضع الخلل الراهنة، وسبل معالجة المخلفات السلبية من الشخصية العربية الثقافية من ناحية، ولإدراك القواعد الجيوبوليتيكية والجيوستراتيجية التي يفرضها الموقع الجغرافي والمستفادة من تجارب التاريخ في محاولة لكشف السيرورة التاريخية، لأن أي تصرف خارج عاملي الجغرافية والقواعد التاريخية في مجال السياسة، هو كإبحار من دون بوصلة، لا سيما في هذه المنطقة البالغة الحساسية التي تتلاطم فيها الأمواج من كل حدب وصوب. فالتاريخ الحضاري والسياسي للشعوب هو الناتج الطبيعي لموقعها الجغرافي، ولبيئتها الجغرافية الطبيعية، وأثر الاثنين معاً على العمران وعلى المسالك، وعلى احتكاك الحضارات ببعضها، وعلى تجربتها الحضارية.
