يعد ميدان الإدارة التربوية من ميادين الدراسات الحديثة وليدة القرن العشرين، وتأتي الحاجة للإهتمام بها من كون المؤسسات التربوية تحتاج إلى إدارة فعّالة تمكنها من استثمار الموارد المادية والبشرية المتاحة مثل المعلمين والإداريين والأبنية والمناهج الدراسية بطريقة تمكّنها من تحقيق الأهداف التربوية والتعليمية التي ينشدها المجتمع، ووفقاً للمؤلف: الإدارة التربوية هي المسئولة عن تحديد الأهداف التربوية ووضع السياسة العامة للتعليم على مستوى الدولة، وضع الخطط والإجراءات الخاصة بالتنفيذ، وتوفير الإمكانات المادية والبشرية اللازمة لدفع حركة العمل في المؤسسات التعليمية، وتحديد المهام والمسؤوليات الخاصة بالعاملين في المؤسسات التعليمية وتنظيمها والتنسيق فيما بينها. وكذلك تحديد وسائل الإتصال داخل المؤسسة التعليمية وخارجها.
ولأهمية هذا الميدان من العلم في تسيير العمل التربوي والتعليمي، فقد تم تناوله في سبعة فصول: عالج الفصل الأول منها التطور التاريخي للإدارة، وتناول الفصل الثاني مدارس الفكر الإداري التربوي وأهم الرواد الذين ساهموا في تطويره. وتناول الفصل الثالث الإدارة المدرسية من حيث مفهومها وعلاقتها بالإدارة التربوية. كما تناول الفصل الرابع السلطات التعليمية وهياكلها التنظيمية في التعليم العام بالمملكة العربية السعودية والتي تتمثل في المجلس الأعلى للتعليم ووزارة التربية والتعليم ... وتناول الفصل الخامس القيادة التربوية من حيث مفهومها وأهميتها ونظرياتها وأنماطها وأهم المهارات اللازمة لممارستها. أما مفهوم إدارة الصف المدرسي والعوامل المؤثرة فيه فخصص لها الفصل السادس. واختتم الكتاب بعرض لقنوات وأشكال التعاون بين المدرسة والمجتمع المحلي ...
