في هذا الكتاب، 542 رسالة، لعالمين من أئمة علماء بغداد، خلال الربع الأول من القرن العشرين، هما السيد محمود شكري الآلوسي (ومجموع رسائله 431 رسالة)، والأب أنستاس ماري الكرملي (وما وقع بيد المحقق من رسائله 111 رسالة). تدور هذه الرسائل على شؤون ثقافية متنوعة: اللغة، التاريخ، التراجم، الخطط، البلدان، الأدب، العقائد، الكتب المخطوطة والمطبوعة، الحضارة، التراث الشعبي، وغير ذلك من الموضوعات، على نحو ما سيراه القارئ في تضاعيف هذا الكتاب.

وإلى جانب هذه الرسائل ضم الكتاب بعد المقدمة، نص المقال الذي كتبه الكرملي في الآلوسي، يلي ذلك: 1-ثبت بمؤلفات الآلوسي من كتب ورسائل ومقالات. وفيها المخطوط والمطبوع. 2-تثبت بالمراجع المتعلقة بالآلوسي.
