يهدف الكتاب إلى مناقشة مجموعة من المحاور والتي أجريت مع عدد من المسرحيين, وقد نتج عن مناقشة هذه المحاور إلغاء للرؤية الأحادية وفسحة عميقة وواسعة أمام القارئ ليتعرف ومن خلالها على آراء المسرحيين في كثير من الأفكار والنظريات والمشكلات التي يعانيها, ويتعرض لها المسرح العربي في مسيرته التي أخذت أبعاداً جديدة سواء من حيث الجدة والابتكار, أم من حيث الوصول إلى الأسلوب الأمثل- في الشكل والمضمون- الذي يشد الجماهير إلى المسرح في زمن صارت فيه المخترعات سائدة وجاذبة إلى حد الإدهاش والسيطرة الكاملة, أو في محاكاة الواقع المعاش والتميز عن المسرح الغربي, هذا عدا عن إيجاد الحلول المناسبة لدفع تطوره إلى الأمام وحماية انتعاشاته في أية بقعة على أرض وطننا العربي الكبير. ومما تناوله الكتاب: التراث, التأصيل, في رحاب التجريب المسرحي, أحادية الرؤية, النقد, بين الفصحى والعامية, الاقتباس, الترجمة, الأزمة, التجربة المسرحية في الوطن العربي, محاور متفرقة.
