يعرض هذا الكتاب مجموعة من القوانين في حماية حق المؤلف في الدول العربية، فإن للمؤلف المصنف المشمولة بالحماية وحده الحق في تقرير نشر مصنفه وفي إختيار طريقة هذا النشر وله وحده حق إستثمار مصنفه مالياً بأي وسيلة أو شكل كان ولا يجوز لغيره مباشرة هذا الحق دون إذن كتابي منه أو ممن يخلفه.
وتتمتع جميع المصنفات بالحماية وفقاً لأحكام قوانين حماية حق المؤلف وتشمل هذه الحماية المصنفات المكتوبة كالكتب والكتيبات والنشرات والمخطوطات والمحاضرات والمصنفات الفنية المسرحية والموسيقية والسينمائية والإذاعية والتلفزيونية ومصنفات الفنون التشكيلية والتصوير الفوتوغرافي ومصنفات المصورات والخرائط الجغرافية والتصاميم والمخططات المتصلة بالطبوغرافيا أو بفن العمارة او بالعلوم بالإضافة إلى مصنفات البرمجيات الحاسوبية... إلخ.
كما أن للمؤلف الحق في إدخال ما يرى من التعديل أو التحوير على مصنفه وله الحق في ترجمته إلى لغة أخرى ولا يجوز لغيره أن يمارس ذلك إلا بإذن كتابي منه أو ممن يخلفه.
كما تجدر الإشارة إلى أنه يستثنى من نطاق الحماية بالنسبة لحق المؤلف مجموعات الوثائق الرسمية كنصوص القوانين والمراسيم والأنظمة والإتفاقيات الدولية والأحكام القضائية وقرارات الهيئات الإدارية والأنباء اليومية المنشورة أو المذاعة أو المبلغة علناً.
