كتاب التنبيهات هذا، ألفه أبو المطرف أحمد بن عميرة للرد على "ألقاب التبيان في علم البيان المطلع على إعجاز القرآن"، الذي ألفه أحد معاصريه من المشارقة وهو أبو محمد عبد الواحد بن عبد الكريم الزملكاني وهو أحد أعلام البلاغة في القرن السابع الهجري، وقد أشار في كتابه التبيان إلى فضل علم البيان وانعدام الإقبال عليه ومرتب كتابه على سوابق ومقاصد ولواحق أما السوابق فتشتمل على ثلاث مقدمات: الأولى في فضل علم البيان، والثانية: في بيان حصر مواقع الغلط في اللفظ، والثالثة في طريق تحصيله وأما المقاصد فتكلم فيها المؤلف على الحقيقة والمجاز وأقسامه من كناية واستعارة وتمثيل والفرق بين الإثبات بالاسم والفعل، والمعرفة والنكرة.
وفي هذا الكتاب "التنبيهات" يتناول ابن عميرة كتاب التبيان بالرد والنقد وهو في كل ذلك يورد كلام صاحب التبيان ملخصاً ثم يردفه بالتعقيب والمناقشة، حيث أن أكثر هذه المناقشات والاعتراضات تنصب على الجزئيات والأمثلة والشواهد التي يوردها مؤلف التبيان.
