اختارت الدكتورة فاطمة البريكي موضوعها "قضية التلقي في النقد العربي القديم" ليس لإرضاء نزعة علمية موضوعية تهدف إلى معاينة ظاهرة نقدية على ضوء نظريات نقدية حديثة وحسب، وإنما أحسب أن الذي دفعها إلى ذلك دفعاً رغبتها في الإسهام في التأصيل لحركة نقدية عربية حديثة تؤمن بالمشاركة ولا تؤمن بالتميز أو الإنبتات، فحركة النقد الحديث حركة نقدية عالمية يشارك فيها النقاد والفلاسفة والمفكرون من مختلف الأعراق والثقافات، وإذا كان العرب في المجمل قد تخلفوا عن الإنتاج الثقافي الحقيقي بإستثناء قلة من النقاد والمفكرين والمتفقين عاش معظمهم في الغرب، ولأسباب متعددة ليس هنا مجال ذكرها، فإن من الخطوات الهامة على طريق الإنتاج محاولات التأصيل التي تتأمل المنجز وتنطلق من معاينته وتحقيقه وتقويمه، إلى وضعه في سلسلة الإنجاز التاريخي للأفكار النقدية المهمة، لتلافي الإنتبات الذي جعل بعض المؤرخين يستهينون بالإنجاز الثقافي للحضارة العربية الإسلامية، وينادون بالقطيعة المعرفية بما قد ينم عن جهل فاضح بحقيقة هذه الثقافة.
