ويُعنى الكتاب بالمنظرين الرئيسيين لتاريخ الإستقبال والخبرة الجمالية، وإلى ما بين النصية وإستجابة القار، كما يعنى بالنماذج البديلة وإختلافاتها، من نموذج الإتصال ومستويات التفاعل بين القارئ والنص، إلى نظرية الإستقبال الماركسية وحوار الشرق والغرب، إلى نظرية الإستقبال التجريبية والإستجابة الفعلية للنصوص.
تشير (نظرية الإستقبال) إلى تحول عام في الإهتمام من الكاتب والعمل إلى النص والقارئ، وفي هذا الكتاب جلاء باهر لكل ذلك، وسوف يجلو هذا الكتاب محاولات وصف الأجواء والسياسية التي انبثقت فيها نظرية الإستقبال، وصولاً إلى ما جعلها مقبولة تدريجياً، وإلى أبرز ما أثّر فيها.
تشير نظرية الاستقبال إلى تحول عام في الاهتمام من الكاتب والعمل إلى النص والقارئ، لذا تم استخدامها كمظلة اصطلاحية تسوّر كلاً من مشروعي ياوس وآيزر. ولكن كيف يمكن تمييز جماليات التأثير أو الاستجابة عن جماليات الاستقبال؟
