تتقاطع أحداث رواية "قمر على بيروت" للروائي زياد عبد الفتاح مع يوميات حصار بيروت في ثمانينيات القرن العشرين، وتعكس تأثير اللحظة التاريخية في الأفراد، فإذا بهم ضحايا أكثر منهم مساهمين في صنعها، واللحظة التاريخية المعنية التي تقاربها الرواية، وترصد انعكاساتها على الأفراد والجماعات والوطن/ لبنان، هي حصار الجيش الإسرائيلي لبيروت عام 1982. نتيجة انهيار وقف اطلاق النار الذي أقرته الأمم المتحدة والذي امنتهى بخروج منظمة التحرير بالقوة من لبنان، وإعادة إسرائيل أقرته الأمم المتحدة والذي انتهى بخروج منظمة التحرير بالقوة من لبنان، وإعادة إسرائيل الأرض التي استولت عليها في الحصار.
تيجسد هذا الحدث في الرواية عبر مصائر معلَقة للشخصيات، في بلد تنهمر فيه القذائف بمعدل "قذيفة كل ثلاث دقائق" وتموت فيه حركة الشارع، لتشهد الرواية مصير وطن كان معلقاُ بين الحرب وقوى الأمر الواقع.
وفي الرواية يصوَر الروائي حياة الناس وحركتهم وضجيجهم وأصواتهم وهمساتهم: "أثناء هذه الحركة المتماوجة أمكن سماع بعض الضجيج، ضجيج هامس ونداءات مكتومة من نساء لأبنائهن وبناتهن، أو من رجال يتعجلون نساءهم، ولربما التقط السامعون في ما التقطوا، صوت رجل يزجر امرأته لأنها تباطأت وهي تفتش... عن قرط لها، أو ثوب آخر تغني به ذلك النزر القليل من ثيابها التي جمعتها على عجل، أو صوت آخر ينهر طفله لأنه يأبى أن يغادر المكان، دون أن يصحب معه دراجته...".
وبهذا تشكل رواية "خمر على بيروت" علامة فارقة في مسار الرواية اللبنانية في الوقت الذي كتبت فيه...
