يوم الجمعة سيد الأيام وأعظمها عند الله تعالى، فيه خلق آدم، وفيه أخرج من الجنة، وفيه تقوم الساعة، والأحاديث الواردة في فضيلة هذا اليوم كثيرة، وأعظم الأعمال في هذا اليوم هو صلاة الجمعة، والتبكير إليها.
وبما أن وقت صلاة الجمعة هو وقت الظهر، فقد وقع اختلاف بين العلماء في شأن الصلاة قبلها، فمنهم من ذهب إلى القول بأن لها سنة راتبة قبلية، ومنهم من ذهب إلى أنه ليس لها سنة راتبة قبلية، وبالجملة فإن المسألة مشكلة.
وقد ناقش العلامة عبد الرحمن المعلمي رحمه الله هذه المسألة بأسلوب الباحث المتقصِّي، والدارس الفاحص، والناقد المتأني، فتراه يورد استدلال المخالف إيراداً دقيقاً، حتى إذا رأيته تظن أن الشيخ يرى هذا المذهب، ولعل المخالف يعجز تماماً أن يورد حجته واستدلاله كإيراد الشيخ له، ناهيك عن الإنصاف، واحترام الآخرين أثناء عرضه المسألة. فقد قدم بين يدي هذه الرسالة الحديث عن أمرين: التنفل يوم الجمعة قبل الزوال، وتحقيق وقت الجمعة.
ويبقى القلم متعثراً، واللسان متلعثماً، والعبارة قاصرة عن وصف هذه الرسالة التي صغرت حجماً، وغزرت علماً.
