من العنوان "حلم كزرقة البحر" ندرك صفاء عالم الرواية. لقد ظللت الزرقة بفيضها على الأحداث بكاملها على مفرداتها وحيوات شخصياتها وأحلامهم" بعد تجربة الانتقال من الريف إلى المدينة.
وفي الرواية تنطلق أمنيات سالم من واقعة تتمظهر بقرار الأب الانتقال من حي "الفريج" في إمارة رأس الخيمة إلى المدينة. هذا الانتقال المفاجئ أعيا بطلة الرواية الإبنة التي سوف تروي الحكاية بيغة المتكلم باعتبارها أحد أفراد الأسرة والدافع إلى ذلك الشعور بالإغتراب الذي يشكل موقفاً كارهاً للمدينة وأضوائها وبحرها.
من هنا فإن رواية "حلم كزرقة البحر" تقدم على شخصية واحدة، تستبد بالسرد والمنظور السردي بدءاً وانتهاء، إذ تنطلق من خلال سرد ذكريات امرأة في مرحلتي باها وشبابها وإنشطار حياتها بين المجتمع القديم "حي الفريج" الذي عاشت فيه، والمجتمع المديني المفارق الذي انتقلت إليه، لتنتهي وهي في حالة أشبه بالفصام، حالمة بعالم غير عالمها الحقيقي.. زماناً ومكاناً، فضاء وبشراً وعلاقات. حتى وصل الأمر بها إلى حد إنكار صورتها الجديدة التي بدت فيها: "أنظر لنفسي في المرآة من هذه الفتاة المسرحة الشعر النظيفة جداً، ذات الثوب الحريري الفخم.. أين ذهبت تلك الصغيرة، القطة التي تكره الاستحمام لأنه يشغلها عن اللهو فوق جدران البيوت والتسكع بحثاً عن مقلب طريف توقع به إحدى رفيقاتها". وهكذا تسرد الكاتبة تجربة التحول التي مرت بها الفتاة من مرحلة الطفولة مروراً بالشباب وحتى التضج بلغة شاعرية ملؤها "الشجن" وهو أبرز ما يميز رواية الذكريات التي تتناولها في هذا العمل...
