عبد العزيز صالح المَقالِح (1937 -)، أديب وشاعر وناقد يمني، ولد عام 1937 في قرية المقالح في محافظة إب وهو رئيس المجمع العلمي اللغوي اليمني. ويُعد في مقدمة شعراء اليمن المعاصرين، وأحد أبرز الشعراء العرب في العصر الحديث.
درس على مجموعة من العلماء والأدباء في مدينة صنعاء، تخرج من دار المعلمين في صنعاء عام 1960، وواصل تحصيله العلمي حتى حصل على الشهادة الجامعية عام 1970، في عام 1973 حصل درجة الماجستير في اللغة العربية وآدابها من كلية الآداب جامعة عين شمس ثم درجة الدكتوراه عام 1977 من نفس الجامعة، وترقى إلى الأستاذية عام 1987. تميزت كتابته بشيء من الكلاسيكية، لكنها سرعان ما انفتحت على الحداثة. عرف عنه كتابته لقصيدة أن يحرمونا يا حبيب الغرام وتغنى بها الفنان اليمني أحمد فتحي.

يطرح الباحث في ثنايا هذا الكتاب تصوره العام حول الفكر الزيدي باعتباره الفكر الديني والدنيوي الذي حكم جزءاً كبيراً من اليمين، ولعب دوراً رئيسياً في حياة اليمنيين منذ ألف عام، وقد تكون ذاك التصور لدى الباحث من خلال مراجعته للكتب الزيدية، بالإضافة إلى ذلك فقد تخلل الكتاب ما تكون لدى الباحث من حصيلة فكرية جارت نتيجة حوارات حول الموضوعات مرتبطة بالتراث الفكري الإسلامي لا سيما ما تكون فيه على أرض اليمن وتشكل مع معطيات واقعها الفريد، وقد اختار من تلك الحصيلة لهذا الكتاب فصولاً أربعة، الأول عن الزيدية، والثاني عن المعتزلة، والثالث عن الإسماعيلية، والرابع والأخير عن علمين من أعلام السلفية المتحررة في اليمن: المقبلي والشوكاني، وقد أشار الباحث في ثنايا الكتاب إلى أن هذه الدراسات التي يحتويها بين دفتيه لا تقصد إلى التاريخ، ولا تذهب إلى إثبات أو نفي شيء يتعلق بالأفكار المدروسة، وإنما هي دعوة إلى قراءة تراثنا بعقول جديدة وبقلوب لا ينفذ إليها التعصب.
