المعتزلة تلك الفرقة ذات الآراء والأفكار المميزة والتى لازالت حتى وقتنا الحاضر ذات تأثير في الدين والفلسفة يتدارس أمرها المؤلف في هذا الكتاب ويعرض آراءه الخاصة حول المعتزلة فيبدأ بالتعريف بها والسمات العامة لفكرها ومبادئها أهم شخصياتها يلى ذلك التعرف على أصولها الخمسة والتعرض لمحنة أحمد بن حنبل ثم عرض أهم فرقها والتى تبلغ ستة عشرة فرقة كذلك دراسة بعض آرائها فى بعض المسائل الإعتقادية.أيضاً يشتمل القسم الثانى من الكتاب على العلاقة بين المعتزلة ومخطوطات البحر الميت (نساك قمران) وتأثرها باليهودية والنصرانية وغيرها من النقاط التى ناقشها الكتاب.
دراسة جديدة عن المعتزلة واهم أفكارهم والمقارنة بين أرائهم وأراء أهل الكتاب والجديد فى كتابنا هذا هو الربط بين أراء المعتزلة وأهل الكتاب من خلال كتبهم المقدسة، أين أتفقوا واين اختلفوا ذاكرين فى كل ذلك الادلة من القرآن والسنة وادلة أهل الكتاب من التوراة والانجيل فمجمل القول أنه قد تناول فكر المعتزلة بمنظور جديد وهو دراسة أفكارهم وعقائدهم فى ضوء عقائد أهل الكتاب. كما قمنا بالتعريف بمخطوطات البحر الميت( مخطوطات قمرن) وذكرنا قصة أكتشاف هذه المخطوطات وأهميتها فى دراسة الكتاب المقدس لدى اليهود والنصارى ومدى تأثر فكر المعتزلة بأراء نساك قمران لذلك فكتابنا هذا بعد أول محاولة إسلامية جادة فيما نعلم فى دراسة هذه المخطوطات القمية والتعريف بها.
