يتناول كتاب المنهج بين النظرية والتطبيق ضمن أطر عامة أساسيات بتاء المنهج وآليات صياغته ضمن الأسس العامة لصياغة المنهج، فقد أراد الكتاب أن يترجم الأسس والآليات إلى واقع ملموس في ميدان العملية التربوية.
حاول الكتاب أن يناقش أساسيات بناء المنهج وارتباط هذه الأساسيات بواقع العملية التربوية من حيث المقومات الفكرية والاجتماعية والنفسية، وأضاف عليها دراسة كل ما يرتبط بالمنهج من أساليب التدريس المختلفة المنبثقة من الصور المختلفة للمنهج.
وقع الكتاب في ستة فصول وفي كل فصل يتناول ثلاثة مباحث تمت دراستها من خلال المصادر والمراجع المعرفية لكتب المناهج والخاصة بمفهوم الفصل؛ فقد ناقش الكتاب الآراء والمفاهيم المختلفة لمفهوم المنهاج ثم بحث في أسباب التغير والاختلاف بين هذه المفاهيم وعلاقتها بتغيير المفهوم، ثم ركز الكتاب ضمن رؤية أكاديمية على تطوير المنهج متسلسلا تمناقشة هذا الموضوع وضمن الأبعاد الأكاديمية المختلفة.
ثم ناقش الكتاب تطوير وتخطيط المنهج والتي بدورها أدت إلى التنظيمات المختلفة للمنهج. حاول الكتاب أن يناقش بعد أن أسس لبناء وتطوير المنهج وضمن الرؤيا الأكاديمية ناقش قضايا في المنهج والمنبثقة من التنظيمات المختلفة للمنهج، حيث ركز على قضايا البعد التطبيقي للمنهج وخاصة بما يتعلق بالتدريس.
إن أهم ما يميز هذا الكتاب هو الشمولية لكل ما يرتبط بالمنهج من مفهومه إلى القضايا المتعلقة بتطبيقه وبالتالي انطلق الكتاب من النظرية إلى التطبيق حتى أسس لرؤيا خاصة بين النظرية والتطبيق منطلقا من المفهوم الشامل للمنهج.
