الدعاء إلى الله والابتهال إليه من أبرز القيم الرفيعة. وهو مهذب النفوس، ويرفع المرء إلى مستوى البشرية المثالية والإنسانية الكريمة والإنسان إن ألمت به محنة من محن الأيام، فإنه يفزع إلى الله ويدعوه ضارعاً منكسراً ذليلاً فلا يجد من يكشف عنه الضر والشقاء سوى الله تعالى، وقد اهتم أهل البيت عليهم السلام بالأدعية اهتماماُ كبيراً وبلغ من اهتمامهم أنهم تركوا لنا ثروة ضخمة من الأدعية النفسية إذ يتم هذا الزحم الضخم من الأدعية عن معرفتهم بالله وتعلقهم بحبله.
وكان أول من فتح باب الأدعية من الأئمة الطاهرين هو الإمام علي عليه السلام كما حفلت سيرة أئمة أهل البيت عليهم السلام بالتوسل والتضرع إليه وأدعية الإمام أبي عبد الله الصادق عليه السلام مقتبس من نور الإسلام ومشاكل مضيئة من هدي القرآن والكتاب الذي بين يدينا، بحث في أدعية الإمام الصادق وقد ظفر المؤلف بمجموعة كبيرة منها، وهي تلقي الضوء على جانب من جوانب الحياة الروحية للإمام جعفر الصادق.
وقد أشاد عليه السلام بفضل الدعاء وأهاب المسلمين أن لا يتركوه في جميع أمورهم صغيرها وكبيرها. وجدير بالذكر أن الدعاء وصفة روحية وهو من أوكد الأسباب في إزالة الأمراض وقد قررت البحوث الطبية الحديثة ذلك وأكثرت أن الطب الروحي من هم الأسباب في إزالة الأمراض المستعصية.
