يحتوي هذا الكتاب على أوراق عمل مؤتمر القمة المصرفية العربية الذي نظمه اتحاد المصارف العربية واللجنة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا (الاسكوا) وبالتعاون مع مصرف لبنان وجامعة الدول العربية ومجلس الوحدة الاقتصادية العربية لعام 2001 تحت عنوان "تحرير الخدمات في الوطن العربي"، وذلك يومي 31 أكتوبر وأول نوفمبر في مدينة بيروت، وقد شارك في أعمال القمة نحو 750 مشاركاً يمثلون مختلف القطاعات الاقتصادية العربية من مصارف وشركات تأمين ومؤسسات نقل وسياحة وتشييد وخدمات أخرى.
هذا وقد دارت جلسات القمة حول الموضوعات المتعلقة بتحرير الخدمات في مجالات الخدمات المالية والاتصالات والنقل والتشييد والسياحة والتأمين والوساطة المالية. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن أعمال هذه القمة وتوصياتها قد جاءا في سياق التحضير للمؤتمر الوزاري الذي تعقده منظمة التجارة العالمية في الدوحة-قطر اعتباراً من 9 نوفمبر 2001.
