فؤاد الخشن واحد من أوسع أصحاب القواميس الشعرية، فقد حرر مسيرته الطويلة آلاف الكلمات من العادي والمألوف، ومنحها أجنحة للتحليق الآسر في فضاء الروح. وأن شعره يشكل حلقة أساسية في مسار شعرنا العربي المعاصر.
يمتاز فؤاد الخشن في شعره بالصورة المضيئة، إلى جانب لغة صافية زرقاء، نشعر معها أننا نرى الأشياء بسحر أعمق، من خلال غلالة نصف شفافة، أو قرية تغرد فيها سفوح القرميد ونوافير النخيل الخضراء، لذلك يعتبر في طليعة رواد الحداثة، إن لم يكن أول رائد لها.
فؤاد الخشن، في قصائده التوحيدية، ينشد الحقيقة في نشدانه لها، ينشدها أغنية أحد جناحيها خيال يطير به إلى فلوات الدنو، على حد تعبير "الحلاج"، وجناحه الثاني حب هو بدو لعشق إلهي تجلى على قلب الشاعر لألاء هو سر الحياة الحق. هكذا ينشد هذا الشاعر الحقيقة. وهو في إنشاده لها إنما ينشدها ويسعى إلى الإمحاء بها. هكذا هو الموحد، إنه كالفراشة لا ترقص حول المصباح لمجرد التمتع بالضوء، وإنما تغنيه، بدورانها حوله لكي تحترق فيه وتمحي عن فراشيتها وتتحد به اتحاداً.
