كان لثورة الحسين عليه السلام ودفاع أصحابه المستميت صدىً واسعاً في كل أرجاء العالم وخاصةً في العالم الإسلامي لما لهذه الثورة العملاقة من تأثير فعال على حركات التحرر الوطنية، والمبادئ السامية التي جسدتها هذه الثورة. حيث سطر المقاتلين الشجعان من أصحاب الحسين وأهل بيته الأطهار وأروع الصور في البسالة والدفاع عن الحق بين يدي إمامهم الثائر عليه السلام.
وما في هذا الكتاب ليس إلا لمحات يسيرات من سيرة هؤلاء الأبطال ودورهم الذي قاموا به في معركة كربلاء الخالدة، وفي معارك أخرى سابقة لكربلاء. هذا وقد جعل المؤلف كتابه هذا في ثلاثة فصول، تحدث في الأول منها عن الشهداء الذين نالوا الشهادة في الكوفة مع مسلم بن عقيل قبل بدء معركة الطف.
أما في الفصل الثاني فتحدث عن الشهداء الذين نالوا الشهادة بين يدي أبي عبد الله عليه السلام في معركة كربلاء. في حين أفرد الفصل الثالث والأخير للرجال الذين نالوا الشهادة بعد استشهاد الإمام الحسين عليه السلام مطالبين بالثأر لدمه الزكي.
