هذا الكتاب دراسة لوثائق واقعة كربلاء بما فيها من خطب ووصايا ورسائل للإمام الحسين عليه السلام التي ركز فيها على بيان عوامل ثورته وأهدافها ونتائجها المستقبلية. وفي هذا العمل دأب المؤلف إلى المقارنة بين أقوال رسول الله (ص) وأقوال الإمام أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام)، وذلك في القضايا التي ترتبط بشخص الإمام الحسين من جانب وبثورته من جانب آخر. وفي المقابل استعرض الكاتب أقوال معاوية بن أبي سفيان، وأقوال إبنه يزيد بهدف إجلاء أبعاد الواقعة وملابساتها. وانطلق في دراسته لهذه الوثائق من أن الواقع الشرعي وكذلك الواقع التاريخي لأهل البيت عليهم السلام الذي هو برأيه الإمتداد الطبيعي لرسالة الإسلام ودعوة رسول الله (ص) لتبليغها وتطبيقها، مبينا رأيه في حكم آل أمية ...
يستخدم الكاتب في شرحه لنصوص الثورة طريقة التحليل والتعليل، والتحرك داخل دائرة المبادىء والمقاصد الإسلامية، معززاً ذلك بالشواهد والأمثلة من النصوص والحوادث، كاشفاً عن ملابسات الكثير من الوقائع والحوادث التاريخية في تلك المرحلة من الزمن.
ومن فكر الإمام الشهيد الحسين عليه السلام نقرأ لك: (ألا ترون إلى الحق لا يعمل به، والى الباطل لا يتناهى عنه. ليرغب المؤمن في لقاء الله محقاً، فإني لا أرى الموت إلا سعادة، والحياة مع الظالمين إلا برماً).
