إن موضوع "الأخطاء اللغوية" ليس موضوعاً جديداً؛ إذ اهتم به كثير من العلماء الأجلاء، منذ ألف "الكسيائي" كتابه "لحن العامة" في القرن الثاني الهجري، ووضع ابن السِّكِّيب كتابه "إصلاح المنطق" وابن قتيبة كتابه "أدب الكاتب" والحريري كتابه "درة الغَوَّاص في لحن الخواص".
وقد سبق المؤلف في هذا العصر في باب "التصويبات اللغوية" كثير من اللغويين الأفاضل سواء أكانت تصويباتهم في كتب مستقلة أم منشورة على صفحات الصحف والمجلات المختلفة.
وفي هذا الكتاب عرض الدكتور محمود سعيد عدداً من "الإجازات اللغوية" بناء على ما أقره مجمع اللغة العربية بالقاهرة وبناء على ما ورد في المعاجم اللغوية، وعدداً من "التصويبات اللغوية" التي تتبع فيها الأخطاء اللغوية (النحوية والصرفية والكتابية واللفظية)، وقد استعان في توثيق هذه "المعلومات" وإكسابها طابعها العلمي بعدد من المصادر والمراجع الرائدة في هذا الميدان.
