الرجل والمرأة طرفان يتبادلان الحقوق والواجبات في شركة الحياة الزوجية، وليس للرجل أن يقتات على شيء من حقوقها المكفولة وإلا كان ظالماً مبطلاً لمفهوم الآية الكريمة: "ولهن مثل الذي عليهن بالمعروف وللرجال عليهن درجة"، وليس لها أن تبغي على شيء من حقوقه وإلا كانت بدورها ظالمة. وليس معناه أن الزوج والزوجة شريكان في كل ما يتعلق بتدبير الحياة وتصريف الأمور وإنما حدد الإسلام وظيفة كلّ في الحياة حسب مقوماته فالمرأة عليها تدبير المنزل وما له علاقة به من الداخل والزوج له وظيفة تميز عن ذلك وهي القيام على تصريف الأمور خارج المنزل بالإضافة إلى الإشراف العام على بعض الاختصاصات التي قد تعجز الزوجة بفطرتها عن القيام بها.
ولتدليل أكثر على الحقوق المشتركة وغير المشتركة بين الزوجين جاء هذا الكتاب والذي يضم بحثاً يبين فيه المؤلف للناس حقوق الزوج لزوجته والزوجة لزوجها، والبحث بشكل عام جاء مقسماً إلى أربعة أقسام: تضمن الأول منها حديثاً عن الحقوق المشتركة بين الزوجين، أما القسم الثاني فتضمن بحثاً في حقوق الزوجة على زوجها، وبالمقابل تضمن للقسم الثالث بحثاً في حقوق الزوج على زوجته، أما القسم الرابع والأخير فاحتوى على فتاوى قيمة ونصائح غالية، وتوجيهات سديدة في الحقوق الزوجية، رد بها الشيخ "عبد العزيز بن باز" على ما ورده من أسئلة ممن تحتاجون إلى رأيه السديد في موضوع "الحقوق الزوجية"
