يتناول هذا الكتاب جملة من القضايا والمواقف التي تتعلق بالشعر مما اعتنى به النقاد الأندلسيون، وهو غير معني بالتأريخ لتلك القضايا والمواقف، ولا بالتأريخ لجهود أولئك النقاد وموقعها من النقد الأدبي جملة، أو من قضايا الشعر جميعاً، بل هو وقف على اختيار ما رأيته مهماً منها، وإلقاء الضوء عليها من ن احية، وما استطاع النقاد الأندلسيون أن يحققوه من إبداع تتجلى فيه شخصيتهم النقدية من ناجية أخرى، فإذا لم يجد بداً من دراسة جهود المتأخرين منهم، فلأن المتقدمين -ربما- نالوا ما يرضيهم من البحث والدرس، أو كادوا.
وحاولت جهدي أن أبسط الآراء، وأقرب وجهات النظر النقدية من خلال عرض النصوص وشرحها حيناً، ومن خلال المقارنة والمقايسة والتدليل حيناً آخر، لأن بعض النقاد يضمنون كلامهم ما يشبه الطلاسم لما يعتوره من آثار فلسفية، أو أساليب معقدة ومعمقة، بحسب منازعهم وثقافتهم وطرائق تعبيرهم، ورأيت أن لا فائدة من اتخاذ مستوى أساليبهم وطرائقهم في التعبير تلك، أو التقعر في الكتابة، كما يفعل بعض النقاد المعاصرين، فإن ذلك مما يزيد الأمر تعقيداً وغموضاً لدى القارئ، ويضحي بالفائدة المرجوة من الدرس والبحث، ويخرج الكتاب من هدفه المرسوم له.
