تدور الأحاديث المدونة في هذا الكتاب حول نشاط الحركة الوطنية عموماً، وعن الحزب الشيوعي في العراق بالتحديد، أو عن منظمة من منظماته. ويقترن ذلك بدراسة مستوى تطور المجتمع العراقي من النواحي الاقتصادية والسياسية والحقوقية والنفسية، وكذلك بمعرفة عمروسية التقاليد الديموقراطية والقانونية في العراق وتأثيرها في كل طرف من أطراف الصراع السياسي الذي شهدته. والصفحات هي مذكرات باقر إبراهيم الذي تأثر اختيار أحداثها وشخصياتها بمصادفات تذكر صاحبها، إلا أنه كان له تدخل بانتقاد أبرزها التي توسم فيها التعبير الأوضح عن الظاهرة، والأقرب لتلخيص التجربة السياسية. وما في هذه المذكرات يعبر عن الأحداث والمحطات الزمنية التي كانت هامة بالنسبة لصاحبها، وعن مساهماته فيها أو إطلاعه عليها.
لذا يمكن اعتبار هذه الذكريات إسهامة قام بها باقر إبراهيم لكتابة التاريخ وهي واحدة من مهمات الحركة الوطنية العراقية وفصائلها الطليعية، ومن قبل هيئات وأجهزة موثوقة وقادرة على كتابة التاريخ وفق منهج علمي يبتعد عن الأهواء الفردية، أو تصوير تاريخ الحزب وحركة الجماهير بالكيفية التي تشبع طموحات الأفراد، أو القيادات، وخاصة، بالاقتران مع إدعاء الحكمة والعصمة من الأخطاء.
