إن لابن عابدين جوانب في شخصيته متعددة تستحق الإكبار والإعجاب، فهو أولاً إنسان موهوب أُوتي مع الموهبة الدأب، فنشأ على التحصيل والطلب منذ نعومة أَظفاره ولزم أَعلام الشُّيوخ، وتخرج على الأَجلة، وفي مقدمتهم الشيخ شاكر العقاد، ثم الشيخ سعيد الحلبي، وكلاهما عالم كبير عظيم جمع إلى العلم الإخلاص والعمل، وكانت لهما عناية خاصة بابن عابدين، وثانيهما هو الذي وجَّهه ليضع حاشيته على كتاب الدر المختار، وأَقرَّه عليها.
وابن عابدين تلميذ الشيخ خالد النقشبندي، أَخلص له حينما أُوذي فأَلف رسالته المسمَّاة (سلُّ الحسام الهندي في نصرة مولانا خالد النقشبندي).
وهو إلى هذا وذاك شاعر يمثّل شعره روح عصره وأُسلوب زمانه.
