إن حركة التجارة الدولية بدأت بلا شك بمفهوم بسيط يقوم على المقايضة في بادئ الأمر، ولكن هذا المفهوم مع تطور الحياة الاقتصادية أخذ أبعاداً جديدة ومفاهيم مختلفة عما كان عليه في السابق. والواقع أن التجارة الدولية قطعت شوطاً بعيداً في الدقة والموضوعية من حيث العلاقة والارتباط الدولي، وتخصصت الكثير من الدول في مجال معين، لا نجده في دولة أخرى وهذا بالطبع أدى إلى ازدهار تجاري واحتكار سلعة في كثير من الأحيان. وحتى يكون الموضوع الذي يبين أيدينا متكاملاً من حيث الطرح والسيطرة على كل جزئية من جزئياته رأينا أن نقسم فصول هذا الكتاب إلى الآتي: كان الفصل الأول لتقديم نبذة تاريخية عن التجارة الدولية من حيث الظروف الطبيعية والبيئية، وكذلك التجارة الخارجية. أما الفصل الثاني: فقد أفردناه للحديث عن نظريات التجارة الدولية. والفصل الثالث: أشرنا فيه إلى التكتلات الاقتصادية المعاصرة فقدمنا لمفهوم التكتل الاقتصادي والعوامل المساعدة في إيجاد هذا التكتل ومزاياه. أما الفصل الرابع: فقد وقفنا فيه وقفة طويلة عند التسويق الدولي من حيث طبيعته وأهميته الوطنية ومجالات أبحاث سوق الاستيراد والأسواق المحلية والخارجية وكيفية التخطيط للأسواق التجارية. وفي الفصل الخامس: تحدثنا عن السياسات التجارية والتجارة الدولية وأشرنا إلى الاتجاهات المختلفة في ذلك. وكيفية تدخل الدول في التجارة الدولية. وفي الفصل السادس: تحدثنا عن أعمال الاستيراد والتصدير، ومشروعاته وهيكلته الإدارية وتنظيمه الداخلي. والفصل السابع: كان للحديث عن التبادل التجاري، والذي يمثل خطوات التصدير والإنفاق. أما الفصل الثامن فكان للحديث عن طرق التسليم في التجارة الدولية من حيث الأعراف التجارية والمصطلحات التجارية ومصطلحات طرق التسليم والشحن.
