شغلت (فرساي) مقر البلاط الفرنسي بحادثين بارزين كان صداهما يرن في باريس من أقصاها إلى أقصاها: الأول هو الحفلة الراقصة التي يقيمها الدوق دي شوازيل رئيس الوزراء في هذه الليلة .. والثاني هو الإحتفال بتقديم الكونتس دي باري إلى البلاط في الليلة التالية.
كان حكم فرنسا في ذلك العهد مقسماً بين محظيات الملك ووزرائه، وقد ألفت البلاد هذا الحكم واطمأنت إليه زمناً طويلاً .. وكان فارسا الميدان في تلك الأيام هما الدوق دي شوازيل رئيس الوزراء والكونتس دي باري محظية الملك .. فيوما تستأثر الكونتس بقياد الملك لويس المنغمس في الملاهي والمسرات فيسطع نجمها وتعلو كلمتها، ويوما يتقرب الدوق إلى الملك وينجح في إقصاء الكونتس عنه ...
ولكل من هذين المتنافسين أنصاره وأعوانه، وان كان وراء الدوق دي شوازيل نخبة كبيرة من أشراف البلاط وسيداته الذين يشدون أزره بغضاً للكونتس وحقداً عليها .. وسر هذا الحقد أنهم كانوا يرون فيها صورة مصغرة للعامة الذين استعبدهم النبلاء وداسوهم بأقدامهم أجيالاً متعاقبة.
بين يدي القارىء رواية تاريخية حافلة بالمغامرات ومكائد القصور، تظهر الخفايا التي تسترها حيطان القصور وتسلط الضوء على لعبة السياسة المقيتة التي تأخذ من الشخص أكثر من ما تعطيه!!
