لد الشاعر يوسف العظم في مدينة معان الأردنية التاريخية الواقعة في أقصى جنوب الأردن، وذلك سنة 1931 لأبوين فقيرين متدينين، بدأ ينهل العلوم طفلاً في كتّاب البلدة لمدة عامين حتى دخل المدرسة الابتدائية وتابع الإعدادية في معان أيضاً.
بعد ذلك انتقل إلى العاصمة عمان، حيث تلقى تعليمه الثانوي فيها، ثم انطلق إلى بغداد ليدرس الشريعة فيها لمدة عامين، ثم توجّه إلى مصر حيث درس في الأزهر اللغة العربية وآدابها، ونال لد الشاعر يوسف العظم في مدينة معان الأردنية التاريخية الواقعة في أقصى جنوب الأردن، وذلك سنة 1931 لأبوين فقيرين متدينين، بدأ ينهل العلوم طفلاً في كتّاب البلدة لمدة عامين حتى دخل المدرسة الابتدائية وتابع الإعدادية في معان أيضاً.
بعد ذلك انتقل إلى العاصمة عمان، حيث تلقى تعليمه الثانوي فيها، ثم انطلق إلى بغداد ليدرس الشريعة فيها لمدة عامين، ثم توجّه إلى مصر حيث درس في الأزهر اللغة العربية وآدابها، ونال شهادتها سنة 1953م، ثم التحق بمعهد التربية للمعلمين بجامعة عين شمس وتخرج سنة 1954م.
شعره: انحصرت اهتمامات العظم الشعرية في موضوعين:
1. فلسطين ومقدساتها ومأساة أهلها.
2. الأوضاع الاجتماعية المتردية التي تعيشها أمتنا.
النشاطات
حصل علي عضوية مجلس النواب في عام 1963م وكان عمره وقتها ثلاثة وثلاثون عاما
أسس مدارس الأقصى عام 1963 قبل عضويته في مجلس النواب، وهي من أوائل المدارس الخاصة في العاصمة عمان.
دخل مجلس النواب مرة أخرى عام 1967 وثم عام 1989م حتي اعتزل العمل السياسي بعد أن أصابه المرض
عين وزيرا للتنمية الاجتماعية عام 1991 لفترة ست شهور أثناء حرب الخليج الثانية

كتاب "المنهزموندراسة في الفكر المتخلف والحضارة المنهارة".
