جاء هذا الكتاب استجابة ملحة لحاجة ترصدها واضع هذا القاموس المزدوج، فقسمه إلى قسمين، تضمن القسم الأول حوالي خمسمائة صفحة من (العربية إلى الفرنسية) أما القسم الثاني فقد تضمن 300 صفحة من (الفرنسية إلى العربية)، بحيث يصبح عدد الكلمات الإجمالى 70 ألف كلمة تمّ ترجمتها بمفردات محددة وسهلة ضمن 800 صفحة للقسمين، وقد تعمد المعجم إدراج المفردات والعبارات التي أصبحت في صلب لغتنا العربية وشاع استعمالها وذلك لتسهيل استخدامها من قبل المثقف والطالب والمترجم.
وقد ألحق هذا العمل ببعض المعلومات المفيدة كرموز العناصر، تحويل درجات الحرارة وأرقام رومانية والعديد من المختصرات الشائعة في اللغة الفرنسية التي يصادفها القارئ في سياق عمله ومطالعته والهدف الأساسي من هذا العمل هو تغطية الحاجة اليومية وتذليل العقبات التي يواجهها الباحث عند قيامه بترجمة نص أو كتاب أجنبي.
