يعتبر الفلسفة والأدب فرعان من فروع المعرفة، يتأثر واحدهما بالآخر، ويؤثّر فيه، كما يؤثّران بباقي المعارف والعلوم، ومناحي الحياة المختلفة وتطوّرها، والوجود وقضاياه ومشكلاته... ويتأثّران، ليتولّد عنهما ما سمّي (بالأدب الفلسفي)، محور دراسة هذا الكتاب التي ستقوم على المنهج الوصفي التّحليلي.
ونواة الكتاب في الأساس، محاضرات ألقيت على طلاّب السّنة الأولى، في كليّة الآداب والعلوم الإنسانيّة، الفرع الخامس من الجامعة اللبنانيّة، بضعة أعوام بدءاً من العام الجامعي 1993/ 1994.
وقد تناول المؤلف الأدب في قسمين الأوّل نظريّ يتناول: "ماهيّة الأدب الفلسفي، إنطلاقاً من مفهوم الأدب وأغراضه، وماهيّة الفلسفة ووظائفها"، "الأشكال الأدبيّة التي سلكتها الفلسفة في وصولها إلى النّاس"، "موقع الإنسان ومساره في الأدب والفلسفة"، "موقف أفلاطون من الفنّ والشّعر، ونقده".
والثّاني تطبيقي تناول فيه الدّراسة والبحث نماذج من نتاج كلّ من: "أبي العلاء المعرّي"، "جبران خليل جبران"، "ميخائيل نعيمة"، "جيتي Goethe"، "ألبرت كامو Albert Camus"، "بول فاليري Paul Valéry".
