هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يقدم أحد الأعمال التي تناول فيها الدكتور "علي شريعتي" عملية تنقية مفهوم الدين وإعادته إلى صيغة الأولى، وبخاصة تلك الأعمال التي تتسم بالجماهيرية وتتميز بالمباشرة... وتتصف بهذا الوضوح الذي يميز ما يقدم إلى الجماهير مباشرة من فكر وهي بالطبع غير أعماله الفكرية التي تتسم بالبعد النظري مثل "معرفة الإسلام" و"تاريخ الأديان" و"الحضارة والمدنية". وهذا الكتاب هو ترجمته لرسالته الشهيرة أبي، أمي، نحن متهمون. وهي عبارة عن محاضرة طويلة ألقاها شريعتي بتاريخ 26/8/1972 على طلابه وجمهوره في مدينة مشهد الإيرانية، ومنها تناول بالبحث حيرة الشباب حول ما يرونه من مظاهر الدين وما يقدم إليهم على أنه أصول الدين، وبين ما يسمعونه غير مخفين سخريتهم من هذا الدين الذي يرونه... ويرد عليهم شريعتي متناولاً هذا الذي يحتجون عليه مظهراً وشعيرة ومبيناً إلى أي مدى ابتعدت هذه الشعائر عن أصولها وكيف انقلبت هذه العقائد إلى غير المراد منها تماماً.
