يتناول البحث والدراسة الحالية موضوع "الفكر السياسي للملا صدرا" لا موضوع "الفلسفة السياسية للملا صدرا"، لأن دراسة الفلسفة السياسية للملا صدرا تحتاج إلى مقدمات لم تتوفر لحد الآن. ولا يخفي أن الفكر السياسي له معنى واسع يضم بعض فروع الفلسفة السياسية أيضاً، لأن الفكر السياسي إذا كان مستنداً إلى أصول ثابتة، فهو في الحقيقة يستبطن فلسفة سياسية يستمد أصوله منها. والنقطة الأساسية التي تميز بين الفلسفة السياسية والفكر السياسي هي أن الفكر السياسي يتناول المسائل المتغيرة في الحياة السياسية، في حين تهتم الفلسفة السياسية -باعتبارها أحد فروع الفلسفة- بالكليات فقط.
وقد تم تنظيم الفصول المختلفة لهذا البحث في ستة فصول لتحقيق الهداف المذكورة سابقاً. ففي الفصل الأول تحري دراسة العوامل المؤثرة في تكوين الشخصية السياسية لصدر المتألهين، وفيه تم السعي إلى دراسة ومراجعة العصر الصفوي من وجهة نظر الملا صدرا.
بينما ناقش الفصل الثاني مكانة العلم السياسي في الحكمة المتعالية ومصادر الفكر السياسي للملا صدرا. في حين اختص الفصل الثالث بتوضيح المبادئ والأسس التي تبين ضرورة الحياة الاجتماعية والسياسية. وفي الفصل الرابع تم بحث ودراسة خصائص ومواصفات الحكومة الدينية بالنسبة لسائر الحكومات. وتناول الفصل الخامس هيكل الحكومة الدينية وخاصة بحث الولاية السياسية للأنبياء والأئمة والمجتهدين. بينما اختص الفصل الأخير بالنتيجة الحاصلة من بحوث هذه الدراسة.
الفكر السياسي الإسلامي هو من أهم معالم تراثنا الغني بعطاءاته، فقد واكب هذا الفكر الحياة السياسية منذ بداياتها، فقدم للأجيال نتاجات باهرة على مر العصور.
وهذا هو جزء آخر من سلسلة تحاول استشراق الرؤى السياسية لدى بعض كبار فقهائنا وعلمائنا ومفكرينا، وتهدف إلى تقديم معرفة سياسية تراثية تسهم في بلورة نظرية سياسية إسلامية معاصرة نواجه بها مشكلات المجتمع والدولة.
ويقدم هذا الكتاب دراسة مستوعبة في الفكر السياسي لعلم من أعلام الفكر، ألا وهو صدر المتألهين الشيراوي (979-1045هـ=1571- 1635م)، فيعرف به وبعصره وفكره بأسلوب سهل رصين معمق.
