تضم دفتي هذا الكتاب تلك الدراسات التي عمل من خلالها المؤلف على المعالجة والتحليل الأنثروبولوجي للبنية الإجتماعية، ولمسار التحولات التاريخية التي مرت بها بنية وثقافة المجتمع البحريني.
سيجد قارئ هذا الكتاب إن إجتهادي في تقديم تلك المعالجة، وذلك التحليل، قد استند على بعض من أعمالي الحقلية الإثنوغرافية المباشرة خلال العشرين عاماً الماضية، فقد مكنتني تلك التجربة الأنثروبولوجية من معالجة ورصد مباشر لبعض من تلك التحولات والمخاضات، ولعل الدراسة الواردة في الفصل السابع حول الدين والهوية والمواطنة، تعكس في بعضٍ من جوانبها نتاج تلك التجربة.
كما توزعت نتائج تلك الأعمال الحقلية، المتضمنة المعالجات والمقاربات الأنثروبولوجية لجوانب من تلك البنية الإجتماعية، بين العمل الحقلي المباشر من جهة، والإستفادة مما أتاحه لي عملي الإداري اليومي في الإشراف على تنفيذ السياسات والبرامج الحكومية في البحرين في مجال الحفاظ على التراث والهوية الوطنية في العقود الأخيرة من القرن العشرين، وكذلك تنفيذ خطط رعاية الإبداع الثقافي في مجال الموسيقى والغناء الشعبي، من جهة، والفنون الإبداعية في الثقافة الرفيعة من جهة أخرى.
