إن كتاب مذكرات وإيزمن أو التجربة والخطأ كما صدر بالإنكليزية أو تاريخ الحركة الصهيونية منذ نشأتها كما استبدلت اسمه شركة هامشيت هاملتون في برستول حين أصدرته يصف حياة وايزمن منذ طفولته في روسيا ثم جميع تطوراته مقتصراً بحثه على تاريخ الصهيونية التي نشأت معه منذ حداثة سنه وداعبت خياله كما داعبت خيال وأخلام كل يهودي ولا شك في أن حاييم وايزمن تأثير تأثير كلياً في "هرتزل" واضع الكتاب الشهور عن المملكة الإسرائيلية و"ماكس نوردو" الذي كتب كتباً اجتماعية كثيري في هذه المواضيع، وقد ساعد وايزمن على تحويل هذه المبادئ النظرية إلى دقئق وحقائق عملية.
ومن الأسباب التي حدت بوايزمن وأكثر اليهود في معارضة إنشاء الوطن القومي في أوغندا وصحراء سيناء عرضت بريطانيا ذلك في عهد اللورد كرومر أنهم كانوا يعتقدون أن الصهيونية حركة عضوية يجب أن تخضع للتطور العضوي ولأن ليس في أوغندا ولا في صحراء سيناء من الحوافز التاريخية أو العوامل الطبيعية التي تؤدي إلى تفاعل التطور العضوي للصهيونية.
وفي هذا الكتاب يذكر وايزمن الأسباب العديدة التي حدت بالإنكليز لقطع وعد بلفور وأهمها أن الإنكليز قد ظنوا أن قيام دولة يهودية في فلسطين سيساعدهم للتصرف والسيطرة على الشرق.
