في الإسلام رجال صدقوا ما عاهدوا الله عليه، فكانوا في حياتهم مثالاً للخلق الإسلامي وكانوا في جهادهم مثالاً للتضحية والإقدام، وكانوا في شهادتهم مثالاً للاستبسال في سبيل إعلاء كلمة الحق وكلمة الإسلام هؤلاء دوّن التاريخ أسماءهم بأحرف من نور، وما زالت سيرهم تتداولها الأجيال رمزاً للبطولات العربية الإسلامية وهذا الكتاب جمع في طياته حكايات طائفة تقدر بمئة وأربعة وسبعون صحابياً جليلاً ضمها ثرى العراق الشامخ الأبيّ. بدءاً من سادة أهل البيت وأولهم أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب، وانتقالاً إلى ولده الحسين الشهيد، ثم أتبعهما بالزبير بن العوام وطلحة بن عبد الله إذ هما من العشرة المبشرين بالجنة، ومن ثم تحدث عن باقي الصحابة الكرام مرتباً سيرهم على حروف المعجم من أسمائهم، وأسماء آبائهم، لأجل حصول القارئ على بغيته منه بسهولة ويسر.
وعلى الرغم من ان هذا الكتاب انصب فيه جهد المؤلف على ضبط موقع وفاة الصحابي وتاريخها إلا أنه المؤلف لم يقصره على هذا بل توسع بعض الشيء في ذكر اسمه ونسبه كاملين دون بتر أو قطع مع سرد وجيز لحياته. كما وذكر الأقوال المتفق عليها والمختلف عليها فيما يتعلق بوفاتهم حسبما جاءت في كتب التاريخ.
