إنها من المسرحيات المهمة جداً ، والحقيقة كما يقول غونثالوا سوبخانوا هو أول ما يجب الاتفاق عليه هو أن مسرح إتشغاري يتحرك بين مقولتين: الدراما اللازمانية والدراما المعاصرة. والدراما اللازمانية هي التي أشار إليها كلارين حين تكلم عن كاتبنا فقال: (إتشغاري الدراما الرومانسية ، الشعرية ، الأسطورية ، وتكاد تكون دائماً شعراً، إتشغاري الذي لا يكاد لا يعجب الجمهور الذكي أبداً ....؛إتشغاري: بحر بلا ضفاف ، إتشغاري قلب الموت .) ومن الجدير بالذكر أن مسرح إتشغاري لا يعرف المصالحة عادةً فهو مسرح مواجهة بين قطبين :الحقيقة من جهة والرأي من جهة أخرى كما في المسرحية التي بين أيدينا.
مسرحي إسباني من مواليد مدريد 1832 ، عمل مدرساً للرياضيات والفيزياء ، ووزيراً للتجارة والتربية والاقتصاد ، بدأ أعماله المسرحية النثرية والشعرية عام 1874 ، وقد ظهرت في أعماله الأخبرة أصداء هنريك إبسن ، وحصل في عام 1904 على جائزة نوبل للآداب مناصفة مع الكاتب
