في هذا الكتاب يؤسس المؤلف إحسان طالب على منطقة وسط تقوم على فكرة (الوسطية والاعتدال) وقد استمدها من صلب الدين الحنيف (وخلقناكم أمة وسطاً) معتبراً أنها: "المنطقة الآمنة التي تتعايش فوقها المجتمعات وعليها تبنى الأوطان وتزدهر الحضارة وينشأ الإنسان متفاعلاً معها ليبني حاضره ويؤسس لمستقبله هي منطقة الوسطية والاعتدال... وكل تطرف باتجاه اليمين أو اليسار سينجم عنه تدمير وحروب طاحنة يخسر فيها الجميع (...)".
يتوجه هذا الكتاب وبحسب مؤلفه الى "متابعو الشأن السياسي العام والمهتمون بالإسلام السياسي. الباحثون عن موقف موضوعي حيادي من مسائل الثورة والبواعث الفكرية والتاريخية والاجتماعية المسببة لها، وعلاقتها بالديمقراطية".
وحتى يكون العرض مقنعاً يؤسس المؤلف عمله على منهج (أكاديمي – فلسفي) يتفحص الظاهرة ويحللها بموضوعية معتمداً منهج التفكيك وإعادة استقراء عوامل نشوء وارتقاء الظاهرة – الثورة – ومحرضاتها، بغية تحقيق توافق بحثي بين الحدث – الشيء – الوقائع – الوجود، وبين الفكر والتفكير. وبهذا يمكن لهذا الكتاب استشفاف المآلات – الحاضر والمستقبل – من خلال العودة الى التجارب السابقة للروَّاد وأصحاب الأثر الذي يشهد لهم التاريخ؛ سعياً وراء وضع أساس نظري متماسك علَّه يكون عنصراً من عناصر البناء السليم لمفهوم الديمقراطية وعلاقتها بالإسلام ومفاعيل الفكر الثوري...
