رواية "الروح" للكاتب المبدع "عبد الرحيم زايد" نص حكائي مفتوح على أسئلة شتى أهمها أسئلة الحياة والموت.
عبر سيرة حياتية مروية ، يتحدث الراوي عما يمكن تسميته بجيل الخيبة الفلسطيني، هذا الجيل الذي علق بين جيلين، وبمعنى آخر، بين جيل بداية الثورة وجيل انطفائها (انحرافها).
بطل الرواية هو أديب عبد الله العرقوبي الذي كان لما يزل طفلاً في الثامنة من عمره حين سلمه أبوه المحتضر لشيخ طريقة صوفية يدعى شامل الحارثي. وعندما كبر الشاب الصغير بدأ البحث عن أقاربه من عائلة العرقوبي، وسط تركيبة إجتماعية خليطة لطوائف وقطاعات بشرية متنوعة من فلاحين وبدو وشركس ودروز ومسيحيين وغيرهم.
يقول الروائي عن عمله هذا بأنه "حاول من خلال هذه الرواية أن يعبر عن أزمة جيل وقع في حالة إرباك بين جيلين: جيل سبقه وهو جيل الأحلام الثورية الكبرى (من التحرر الوطني إلى القومية، والماركسية، والديمقراطية) وجيل جاء بعده (وهو جيل بدا مغيباً لوقت طويل – لولا الربيع العربي الأخير) ... وما ساد خلال المرحلتين من انحراف الثورات والمفاهيم والقيم، مما أدى إلى هوة سحيقة ما بين قداسة القيم الثورية والمفاهيم الإنسانية من جهة، وفسادها وانهيارها كقيمة من جهة أخرى".
وهكذا من خلال خط فاصل بين الحياة والموت يثير الروائي مآل الفرد الفلسطيني وسط عالم يموج بالصراعات.
