ليس هذا القاموس تكراراً لقواميس سابقة، ولكنه نوع جديد بالكلية، فهو أول قاموس عام موجه لدارسي اللغة الإنكليزية يحاول أن يجمع بين دفتيه مزايا القاموس أحادي اللغة والقاموس ثنائي اللغة في وقت واحد، حيث وضع فيه تعريف معنى كل كلمة باللغة الإنكليزية (مع أمثلة على الاستعمال في جمل تامة). كما أضيف المرادف العربي لكل معنى من معاني تلك الكلمة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك هناك ميزة أخرى لهذا القاموس وهي أنه أعطيت تعاريف الكلمات جميعها بوساطة عددٍ محددٍ من المفردات المعروفة حوالى 1500 مفردة والتي يدرسها الطالب في السنوات الثلاث أو الأربع الأول على الأكثر.
وقد كانت المحتويات وطريقة التنظيم على الشكل التالي: محتويات القاموس مرتبة حسب الأبجدية الإنكليزية بالطبع. تبدأ المداخل بالجذور ثم تتبع بالمشتقات لمداخل منفصلة وتعامل معاملة المدخل الرئيسي. كل مفردة جديدة تتبع أولاً بطريقة نطقها على الطريقة البريطانية ثم على الطريقة الأمريكية، إذا كان هناك خلاف بين الطريقتين. أما إذا كان هناك أكثر من نطق بريطاني واحد للكلمة فيفصل بين النطقتين بفاصلة.
وللتدليل على طريقة النطق باللهجة البريطانية تستخدم الرموز الصوتية المبينة في الجدول رقم (1). بالإضافة إلى ذلك كله فإن في هذا القاموس ما يكفي لطالب المرحلة الثانوية بكاملها بالإضافة إلى المرحلة الجامعية التي يتلقى الطالب خلالها علومه باللغة العربية ولكنه يحتاج من خلال دراسته إلى الاطلاع على بعض المراجع باللغة الإنكليزية. كما أن في القاموس ما يفي بحاجة القارئ أو الكاتب العربي عند تناوله موضوعات صحفية أو عامة في جميع مناحي الحياة تقريباً.
